Course Objectives
In seventh grade, students will complete four modules of study with the overarching focus for all modules on building students’ literacy skills as they develop knowledge about the world. Each module provides eight weeks of instruction, broken into three shorter units. Each module includes seven assessments:

New Berlin Jr. High uses Six-Minute Solution daily reading fluency . The Six-Minute Solution builds students’ reading fluency—essential for text comprehension—and is valuable as a tool that quickly builds fluency through interactive, peer-to-peer repeated readings of high-interest, targeted readability passages.
Grammar and Vocabulary
Students in 7th Grade ELA will spend a third of their time studying the finer points of grammar, spelling and vocabulary. Over the course of the year they will complete 30 or more weeks of Common Core aligned daily grammar study called Daily Language Review this is in addition to rigorous grammar studies that coincide with our Module texts. Beginning the second week of school students will begin a 20 week vocabulary practice called WordlyWise 3000 with pre- and post tests to assess their learning along the way.
